The first post

Hi everyone,
This is the very first blog post of sarvaMail and we are thrilled to be in our alpha release. But first, let me start by explaining what sarvamail is and how it works.

When you send emails, you simply open your browser, or your email client, and type away. Then you simply send it. Your email content makes it to its recipient(s). Once they receive your email, they get to keep it forever. You can't take it back, you can't delete it, it is sent! sarvaMail addresses this very issue: Can I do anything about an email I sent?

With sarvamail, you can. Your email will be set to expire in a number of days you define, and on that day, the content will be locked away. If the recipient reopens your email after you sent it, they will simply see an expiration notice. Can they print your email at the time they received it and keep the printout? Sure, we haven't built a solution for that yet, but we're working on it :)

So how's all this work? First, it works seamlessly with any email client be it web based or desktop such as Outlook. You simply type your email and send it. In your subject line you define when it expires. For example:

Subject: Your job offer details [expire: 7 days]

When the recipient opens the email on the 7th day, here's what they see:

At that point, they can request additional time from you and it's up to you to grant the extension.

Is email expiration the only feature of sarvaMAIL? Of course not. Here are just a few features:

1. We keep track of the IP addresses that access your email. We then present you with access to this report. That way you can see how many different IP addresses accessed your email content and often times this is an indication of how many different places your email was forwarded.

2. You can use your mobile phone

3. You can limit the number of cc'd emails

Where do I sign up for this? Well, we are currently in private beta. What this means is that we just launched the service, are working on improving the technical components, and haven't opened it to the general public yet. But if you want to test drive it anyway, send us an email at alpha@sarvamail.com

So that's about it for now, feel free to comment on our blogs and we look forward to serving you!
